On the one hand the central part of the Costa Brava offers tranquillity and peace and quiet and nature enjoyment, on the other hand the sport and leisure offers leave nothing to wish for. The clean rocky coast and the Medes islands off the coast are some of the best diving and snorkelling grounds in the whole Mediterranean!
The coast is dominated by large, open pinewoods, in which most of our houses in the area of Pals are located. The Ebro delta is a large alluvium similar to the Camarque. It is mainly used for growing rice. Many lakes, lagoons, swamps, canebrake zones and saline fields are nature protection areas offering ideal breading and resting conditions for a wide variety of birds (amongst others large flamingo colonies).
Culture
Catalonia is culturally very wealthy. Figueres with the Dali museum and Gerona (Girona) with one of the most beautiful old town centres in Spain are not far from Pals; Barcelona and the Pyrenees are also in comfortable reach. Pals is a medieval town; further places with similar charisma can be found close by. Kitchen and cellar are down to earth but possess a special type of finesse and hold a top position in the regional kitchens of Spain.
Sport and excursions
Practically all sorts of sport and water sports are possible in the central part of the Costa Brava. The coast is ideal for diving and snorkelling! Golf and tennis, riding, hiking and cycling, as well as an extensive offer for children and teenagers supplement the beach offer. Only a few kilometres inland you will find lively villages with impressive medieval architecture with massive watch towers, town walls and castles: Pals, Peratallada, Palau-Satur, Begur and a huge wealth of early Romance churches and cloisters!
The provincial capital has a magnificent old town centre and a cathedral that is well worth seeing. The cork museum in Palafrugell documents the cork tree and cork processing and the Dali museum in Figueres, hometown to the great surrealist is also worth a visit. Not to be missed are the many music festivals and pageants in some of the towns in the region.
In just over an hours drive you can reach the old volcano area of Garrotxa with lots of forests and hiking trails and impressive places like Besalú and Castellfollit de la Roca that towers on a basalt ridge.
The Ebro delta is a paradise for beach lovers, for children, for nature friends, ornithologists and anglers (when booking we will be happy to give you more detailed information). Riding and bicycle tours (rental) are on offered on location and the amusement park Port Aventura is approx. 1 hour away.
The informative ecological museum is also located in Deltebre, boots can be rented or you can take a boot tour to the area of the delta mouth. We will gladly help you get a fishing license or assist in renting a boot. The hilly back land with well-known vineyards, ancient cloisters, attractive villages and landscapes is also quickly reached.
