Climate in Asturias/Cantabria
The climate in North Spain is Atlantic with Mediterranean influence, it as a lot milder than the more northerly located Atlantic regions of France and England but without the heat and dryness of the Mediterranean coast. Temperatures from Mai to October usually range from 20 to 30 °C (68 to 86 °F). It can occasionally rain in any season, the summers are sometimes Mediterranean consistent, sometimes changeable. Violent winds are rare and due to the protected location of most beaches in small bays the sea is usually remarkably quiet.
Our holiday house and hotel locations in Asturias/Cantabria
We offer holiday houses and small hotels solely in the western region of Cantabria and the eastern region of Asturias. This is surely the nicest region of the entire Spanish North Coast: without the industry or intensive farming, hardly any tourism, original small villages and magnificent small sand beaches that you will find along the jagged coast line. The infrastructure of accommodations is still very limited and not comparable to middle European demands. So we have taken great care in selecting only houses of good or very good quality and only especially charming hotels.
Nature in Asturias/Cantabria
The most fascinating aspect is the proximity of the Atlantic and the high mountains the up to 2,600 m (8530 ft.) high Picos de Europa. Here the Costa Verde forms magnificent beaches embedded in the rocky coast with small shallow sandy beach bays and unspoilt, evergreen backcountry. Forests and meadows stretch all the way to the bays of the Atlantic, one can find early Romanesque churches, Celtic costumes and folklore (even bag-pipes), but you can also find peace and quiet, simple farm and fishing life, splendid food and drinks in rustic inns and excellent restaurants.
Culture in Asturias/Cantabria
Handed-down traditions in handcraft, folklore and gastronomy are practiced and maintained to this day. Possible excursions include pre-historic caves, fishing villages, small churches and cloisters, medieval towns· and inviting restaurants and wine and cider (Sidra) bodegas. The villages celebrate their festivals from Spring until Autumn, with beautifully hand-made costumes, bagpipe music and local specialities.
Excursions in Asturias/Cantabria
Walks and bicycle tours along the unspoilt coastal landscape, in the hills, and in the high mountains are very enjoyable. The lime stone massif of the Picos de Europa (2,600 m or approx. 8530 ft high) and the National Park Covadonga are a hiking dream with lavish flora and fauna. Flowers cover the hillsides, you can watch vultures, golden eagles and chamois and the streams and rivers are rich in trout and salmon.
